Self Drive Requirements

Are you planning to use a self drive car hire during your holiday in Uganda, there are a few self drive car hire requirements you need to have so that you can enjoy your self drive.

Minimum age required:

19 years old. (Driver must have had 1 year of driving experience prior to hiring a car. ‘Escort Drive’ program is accepted.)

When renting a vehicle, a driver qualified as a “young driver” pays a specific charge (according to the Terms and Conditions of the country of rental) –  the “Young Driver Surcharge”.

Terms and conditions of the applicable Young Driver Surcharge may vary from one country to another: it is therefore strongly recommended to consult the relevant terms and conditions either at time of booking online.

Local driving licence:

You will need to present to our customer representative your normal driving licence, issued by your country of residence and held for a minimum period according to local legislation or conditions.

Identification documents required:

An identification document, such as a passport or ID card may also be required. The driver licence is not sufficient.

Pick-up and drop-off:

We’re all about making your life easier and taking the hassles out of travel. You don’t have to pick up and drop off your car at the same branch, and you can even arrange delivery or collection of your car. All with the aim of saving you valuable time.

Optional extras:

Driving should be as comfortable, convenient and practical as possible. With our car hire extras you can choose to add the options that make your driving experience more enjoyable.

Optional extras can be selected during your booking process or requested at collection.

Driving Cross Borders:

If you wish to travel across Country borders, you will need to inform us in advance as Driving Restrictions may apply. If the route is permitted we will ensure you are given the correct documentation and are covered with breakdown assistance. Additional charges may apply.

Vehicle Insurance

All rental vehicles in Uganda must have third-party insurance. Make sure you confirm with the car rental company that the vehicle has insurance before you start your journey.

Traffic Rules

Familiarize yourself with the traffic rules in Uganda, including speed limits, traffic signs, and driving on the right side of the road. It is also essential to know the road conditions and weather patterns to ensure your safety on the road.

GPS Navigation

It is essential to have GPS navigation in Uganda as some roads may not be well marked. Ensure you rent a car with GPS navigation or bring your own.

Means of payment:

You will also need to present a valid credit card on which an authorisation is requested.

Please be aware that the renter is the cardholder and must be physically present in order to sign the rental agreement.
